soFly - Women in Aviation International

Orlando, FL -

soFLY Southern Tropics, a nonprofit chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI) representing South Florida to the Islands, debuted an incredible first year in 2023. In addition to engaging member outreach events at Fontainebleau Aviation & Atlantic Aviation, the chapter successfully launched an annual series of Girls in Aviation Day reaching over 1000 adolescents. soFLY partnered with FEAM Aero in Doral, Sheltair Aviation Services in Fort Lauderdale, and Fontainebleau Aviation in Miami for this exciting series. In honor of International Women’s Day, the South Florida chapter established the soFLY Girls in Aviation Tech Day Powered by AAR and TRAX which inspired 200 young adults, of high school and college age, at AAR Airframe MRO in Miami. soFLY’s philanthropic work established “The soFLY Endowment” of thirty thousand dollars for Emil Buehler Aviation Institute at Broward College. Furthermore “The soFLY Scholarship” launched thanks to the generous support of The Florida Aviation Network and World Aerospace.

soFLY’s executive leadership was invited to speak at this year’s WAI Conference in Orlando, Florida from March 20th through the 23rd. soFLY’s President Jessica E. Matthews and Vice President Monica Sarduy will share insights into the strategies deployed by soFLY Southern Tropics to achieve remarkable growth during the provisional year, including membership engagement, community outreach, fundraising campaigns, and partnership development.

"soFLY Southern Tropics is thrilled to be showcased at such an important event that combines our passion for aviation and philanthropy," says Jessica E. Matthews, Founder & President of the local WAI chapter. "We believe in breaking barriers and the WAI conference is a testament to that belief. soFLY aims to empower and inspire women in the aviation and aerospace sector while promoting networking opportunities for our professional development. Thanks to the mission of WAI, the sky is limitless!”

“The secret sauce to our chapter has been an effective combination of leadership and recruitment. Our President’s supply chain background merged with my technology expertise has created synergies to identify opportunities and female leadership who can take our organization to the next level,” asserts Monica Sarduy, Vice President. Without the contributions of our volunteers and board members combined with the support of our corporate sponsors, we wouldn’t be where we are today and for that, we are forever humbled and grateful.”
